News flash! Big Scioty’s upcoming 2026-27 season will be held at our pre-2020 home, First Congregational Church, located at 444 E. Broad St. in downtown Columbus. While we’ve enjoyed dancing at Clinton Heights Lutheran, where we’ve held most of our dances since the pandemic, it just doesn’t have enough space to accommodate the growing number of Central Ohioans who’ve discovered the joys of contra dancing.
The only drawback is that First Congregational’s larger space comes with a significantly larger rental fee. Combined with the already hefty costs of hiring a caller, band and sound technician, that makes it harder than ever to finance our monthly dances.
Because of this, we plan to experiment with new and more flexible pricing for next season. We want our dances to remain inviting and affordable, so our base prices will remain at $10 for those over 26, $5 for ages 12-26, and free for children under 12. But if supporting the local contra scene is important to you, and if your budget allows, we’re inviting you to donate a bit more: up to $20 for those over 26, or up to $10 for ages 12-26.
Another way to support Big Scioty is to buy an annual sponsorship. For $100 ($50 for ages 12-26), you’ll receive all the privileges of membership plus the convenience of free admission to each of next season’s eight dances. (Other sponsorship levels are available. Finally, annual memberships are still available. Priced at $15 (ages 27-plus) or $5 (ages 12-26), these offer a way to show your support for Big Scioty while enjoying a discounted admission of $7 or $3, respectively, at each dance.
We want as many people as possible to enjoy contra dancing, which is why we’re moving to a larger space. That’s also why we’re keeping our admission costs flexible even though that larger space comes with a larger price tag. Please come and join us!
