Kathy Anderson and the Big Four will once again grace our dance hall on Saturday. If you were there in May when they helped us wrap up last season, you know you’re in for an evening of contra bliss.
The Louisville-based band, led by fiddler Andrew Taylor of the Ripples, effortlessly spans genres as it performs French Canadian, Irish, old-time and New England tunes, imbuing all with a modern bluegrass flare. (More at their Facebook page here.) As for Kathy, she’s known around the country and beyond for her repertoire of quirky contras and exciting squares. Together, they make an unbeatable combination.
Beginners welcome: Contra dance is a friendly American tradition and great exercise to boot! You don’t need to bring a partner, and we’ll teach you all you need to get started during the half-hour lesson. Admission is $8 ($7 for Big Scioty members), $4 ($3) for ages 12-26, free for children under 12.
Membership has its privileges: As of our last dance, we’ve signed up 41 members for the 2019-20 season, which is just short of our 2018-19 total. Join us! For $12, you’ll get perks such $1-off admission to each dance, along with the comforting knowledge that you’re helping to keep contra dance alive and kicking in Central Ohio.
