Saturday’s Big Scioty dance features Darlene Underwood, a seasoned caller from Cincinnati who chooses dances for their “stories” and flow. She’ll be joined by Wizard Walk, a Louisville band that combines keyboardist Kate Sanders with ex-Coffee Zombies Tom Cunningham on fiddle and Bob Douglas on percussion. This talented trio will bring Darlene’s dances to life with a toe-tapping mix of old-time, swing, Celtic, French Canadian and rock music.
Beginners welcome! Do you like the idea of combining a lively folk tradition with music that rocks the house? Then drop by! You don’t need to bring a partner, and you can pick up the basic moves during the half-hour lesson. Admission is $8 ($7 for Big Scioty members), $4 ($3) for ages 12-26, free for children younger than 12.
Win a mug! Saturday’s dance will feature a raffle for a coffee mug adorned with the Big Scioty logo. The raffle is open to members only, and you must be present to win. (If you want to try your luck but don’t currently belong, you can join up for $12 at the dance.
