Big Scioty’s final summer dance will feature open calling and some long-absent friends from Cincinnati. And, oh yes, some delicious desserts to enjoy during the break.
The long-absent friends are the Full Moon Country Orchestra, a quartet that complements its down-home sounds with a smattering of ragtime. The callers will include Margaret Goodman, Dave Notman, Richard Ades and anyone else who wants to take the mic. Never called before but want to give it a try? Contact Richard at email@example.com for tips on how to make it happen.
And the desserts? We’re counting on you to bring your favorite sweet treats to share outside (weather permitting) during the break. (Note: Rumor has it that one longtime dancer will bring a pie or two made with pears from his bountiful backyard harvest.)
Admission is $8 ($7 for members), $4 for ages 12-26 ($3 for members), free for children under 12. The dance will be held at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Clinton Heights Avenue and High Street one block south of North Broadway. If you’re new to contra dance or a bit rusty, plan to arrive at 7:30 p.m. for a quick and easy lesson.
COVID health protocols: All dancers must be vaxxed and (if eligible) boosted and must wear an effective mask such as an N95 or KN95. (For questions about possible alternative masks, email firstname.lastname@example.org.) If needed, masks will be provided for free (first mask) or $1 (subsequent masks). Big Scioty and All Soles Contra & Square Dance are sharing a list of dancers who’ve proved they’ve met the vaccination requirements. If you’re not already on this list, please mail a photo of your vax card to Marilyn Fais at email@example.com by 5 p.m. Thursday (July 28) or bring your vax card to the door.
PARKING: available behind the church and on nearby streets
