Big Scioty’s February contra dance will benefit from the incomparable calling of Pittsburgh’s Gaye Fifer, whose clear instruction and firm but friendly style makes even beginners feel like experts! The music will be provided by the talented Athens-based trio Trillium, consisting of Mark Barsamian on fiddle, Mark Delozier on piano and Zeke Hutchison on mandolin.
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 4, 8-10:30 p.m. If you’re new to contra or feel a bit rusty, plan to arrive at 7:30 p.m. for a quick and easy lesson.
WHERE: Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights Ave., Columbus (on the southeast corner of High Street one block south of North Broadway). Parking is available behind the church and on nearby streets.
ADMISSION: $10 ($7 for members), $5 for ages 12-26 ($3 for members), free for children under 12. Memberships are $12/year.
COVID health protocols: All dancers must be vaxxed and (if eligible) boosted and must wear an effective mask such as an N95, KN95, KF94 or a blue disposable mask. (To ask about other acceptable masks, email bigsciotycontra@gmail.com.) If needed, masks will be provided for free (first mask) or $1 (subsequent masks). The two local contra groups (Big Scioty and All Soles) have compiled a list of dancers who’ve met the vaccination requirements. If you’re not already on this list, please mail a photo of your vax card to Marilyn Fais at sherm415@aol.com by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, or bring your vax card to the door.
SNACKS, etc.: Treats are welcome and may be left on our snack table to share. Please bring a reusable water bottle for your own use.
