Big Scioty is ending its summer break early! Join us on Saturday, Aug. 24 as we celebrate a blessed event with the help of open calling and the Athens-based trio Trillium.
What’s the blessed event? A new piano! We wanted to return to Clinton Heights Lutheran Church for most of the 2024-25 season, but the hall’s defective piano would have made it hard to book certain bands (like Trillium!). Fortunately, Big Scioty was able to find a free, working piano, and we donated the cost of moving it to the church. We’re holding this special dance to celebrate its arrival!
When, where: 8 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights Ave., Columbus. If you’re new to contra or a bit rusty, plan to arrive at 7:30 p.m. for a quick and easy lesson.
Admission: $10 ($7 for members), $5 ($3) for ages 12-26, free for children under 12. (See below for membership info.) Voluntary donations are also welcome to help defray the cost of moving the new piano.
Parking: available in the church lot and on nearby streets.
Refreshments: Feel free to bring something to share, especially desserts. (This is a celebration, after all!) Also, please bring a water bottle for your own use.
Memberships, sponsorships: Since this is the start of our 2024-25 season, now is the perfect time to renew your Big Scioty membership or sponsorship. A $12 membership entitles you to discount admission to each of the season’s nine dances, while a $100 sponsorship entitles you to FREE admission. Additional sponsorship levels are also available—contact Ellie Nowels at bigsciotycontra@gmail.com for details.
2024-25 season: Dances will be held the first Saturday of each month, September through November and January through May. Wintertime dances (January through March) will be held at First Congregational Church in downtown Columbus; all other dances will be held at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church.
