This weekend’s dance is special for a couple of reasons. First, it will be preceded by Big Scioty’s annual meeting (more on that below). Second, it will feature what will likely be the last local appearance by one of our all-time favorite bands, the Ripples.
Featuring Gabrielle Lanza, Kristen Planeaux, Andrew Taylor and Christopher Wood, the Cincy-based Ripples offer an ever-changing blend of instruments and voices that keeps dancers entranced and energized. We’ve brought them to Columbus many times over the years, and we’d love to keep bringing them back—but Kristen and Gabrielle are leaving the region. Help us give them a proper sendoff.
Saturday’s dances will be provided by Stephanie Schlie, a Columbus caller known for her fun-loving (and pun-loving) personality. Admission is $8 ($7 for members), $4 ($3) for ages 12-26, free for children under 12.
ANNUAL MEETING, 6:30 p.m.: Previously held in the fall, our membership meeting is being held in the (almost) spring for the first time. Besides voting on board members and a safety-related bylaw change, we’ll hear reports on our finances and on plans for Mayapple Stomp and Winter WarmUp. And, in general, we’ll discuss how we’ve done over the past year and how we can do even better in the future. Please join us! Note: Though the meeting is open to all, voting is limited to current Big Scioty members.
