We’re back! Join us as we launch Big Scioty’s 2019-20 season with help from some good friends from Indiana and West Virginia.

The caller will be Barry Dupen, who first took the mic more than two decades ago in North Carolina and now is active in the Indiana contra scene. Music will be supplied by the Wild Ones, who started as a band dedicated to bringing the traditional New England sound of fiddle and piano to West Virginia. Members are fiddler Paul Epstein (also of the Contrarians), keyboardist Rita Ray and Paula Bickham, whose accordion and hand drums add a distinctive Eastern European flavor to the lively mix.

Beginners welcome! If you’ve never contra danced before, now’s the perfect time to give this great American tradition a try. You don’t have to bring a partner, and you can learn all you need to know during the half-hour lesson. Admission is $8, $4 for ages 12-26, free for children under 12. (For more on what to expect at a contra dance, visit bigscioty.com.)

Annual membership drive: You don’t have to be a member of Big Scioty to dance with us, but joining up does give you perks like $1-off admission at each of this season’s 15 dances. More importantly, it helps to keep this friendly tradition going strong in Central Ohio. A one-year membership is $12 and can be purchased at Saturday’s dance.
