Kim Thompson

Not all of us are committed enough to travel to Alaska for a contra dance, but that’s just what Kim Thompson did over the holiday season. Maybe she’ll tell us about it Saturday, when the Athens-based caller helps us celebrate the New Year the best way we know how—on the dance floor!

Providing the tunes will be Changeling, a popular Yellow Springs duo consisting of fiddler Deborah Clark Colon and guitarist Karl Colon. Together, they produce fine, Irish-flavored music that’s guaranteed to set toes a-tapping and spirits a-rising.

Note to non-dancers: Did you make a New Year’s resolutions to get more exercise in 2020? Well, contra dance is a great way to do just that while having fun in the process. The moves are easy, all the dances are taught and called, and no one cares if you make mistakes. It’s all part of the fun!

Admission is $8 ($7 for Big Scioty members), $4 ($3) for ages 12-26, free for children under 12. Come and help us get 2020 off to a rousing start!
